The Washington Post Express conducted the first ever "Best
of Express 2009" reader's poll and Verizon Center was selected
as the "Best Stadium in DC". Reader's submitted nominees
for the category which included Fed Ex Field - home of the NFL's
Washington Redskins, RFK - home of the MLS' DC United, National's
Park - home of the MLB's Washington Nationals and Verizon Center
- home of the NBA's Washington Wizards, NHL's Washington Capitals,
WNBA's Washington Mystics and NCAA's Georgetown Hoyas. The two-week
long voting contest for the "Best of Express 2009" poll
tallied 20,000 individual voters and 320,000 overall votes.
"What a great honor it is to have readers choose Verizon Center
as the best stadium in DC," says Abe Pollin, Chairman and Owner
of Verizon Center. "The competition out there is tough when
you compare all of the different options the city offers for people
to cheer on their favorite sports teams, so my wife and I want to
especially thank everyone who voted for Verizon Center and made
this happen."
Nominees for the Washington Post Express' first ever "Best
Of Express 2009" Reader's Poll were submitted from September
7 to September 8. Voting for the winners of each category in the
poll took place from October 5 through October 16. Results of the
entire "Best of Express 2009" poll will be published in
