"HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL: THE CONCERT" PERFORMS IN THE NATION'S CAPITAL AT VERIZON CENTER ON DECEMBER 28
"High School Musical: The Concert," a North American
arena concert tour starring the multi-talented cast of the Emmy
Award-winning Disney Channel Original Movie and pop culture phenomenon
High School Musical, will begin November 29 in San Diego, California,
launching a 40-city concert tour which includes a December 28th
stop at Verizon Center in Washington, D.C. Tickets for the Verizon
Center show go on sale Saturday, November 11 at 12:00noon.
Performing the hit songs from High School Musical's triple-platinum-selling
soundtrack (which also is the #1 best-selling album of 2006 to date)
are the multi-talented young stars (in alphabetical order): Corbin
Bleu ("Chad"), Monique Coleman ("Taylor"), Lucas
Grabeel ("Ryan"), Vanessa Hudgens ("Gabriella")
and Ashley Tisdale ("Sharpay"). They will be joined by
the Emmy Award-nominated singer/songwriter Drew Seeley, who co-wrote
the hit "Get'cha Head in the Game" and contributed male
vocals to the High School Musical and The Cheetah Girls 2 soundtracks.
Zac Efron ("Troy") currently is filming the musical motion
picture Hairspray and is unable to join the concert tour.
In addition to performing songs from High School Musical, the stars
also will have breakout moments during each concert. Corbin Bleu,
Vanessa Hudgens and Ashley Tisdale will perform material from their
current and/or forthcoming solo albums.
Emmy Award-winning director and choreographer Kenny Ortega is serving
as creative director for "High School Musical: The Concert"
and has assembled a world-class production team for the concert
tour.
Bob Cavallo, Buena Vista Music Group Chairman, said, "'High
School Musical: The Concert' is the logical next step in BVMG’s
recently launched concert production arm. The segue from runaway
hit Disney Channel original movie and biggest selling album of the
year to concert arenas will be a great experience for the whole
family. It follows on the heels of our record-breaking, sold-out
The Cheetah Girls' tour with special guests Miley Cyrus, Vanessa
Hudgens, Jordan Pruitt and Everlife."
Rich Ross, President, Disney Channel Worldwide, added, "This
concert tour is the culmination of a landmark year where Disney
Channel hits were built into music industry headlines by our colleagues
at Walt Disney Records. As the High School Musical franchise burgeons,
we are above all else grateful to our viewers and their parents
for their appreciation of the movie and are thrilled to watch our
multi-talented young stars launch a new facet of their careers –
concert headliners."
The High School Musical soundtrack currently is the #1 album of
the year and was the first-ever TV movie soundtrack to make it to
#1 on Billboard's Top 200, where it spent two weeks in the top position.
Among Walt Disney Records' other extensions of Disney Channel hits
are the chart-busting soundtrack to The Cheetah Girls 2 and its
wildly popular 74-city concert tour, and the soundtrack to the year's
#1 series on basic cable among tweens, Hannah Montana, which became
the first TV soundtrack ever to debut at #1 on Billboard's Top 200
this week. Walt Disney Records' sister label, Hollywood Records,
recently released Vanessa Hudgens' solo debut album and will release
Corbin Bleu's solo album early next year.
High School Musical has reached 58.7 million total viewers (unduplicated)
worldwide and is projected to reach approximately 100 million by
the end of the calendar year.
